The Westerly Morris Men Dancers have danced atop Lantern Hill in Stonington, CT for 30 years. The video is from last year atop the hill. I had long ago gave Morris Dancing a try with a team of women that was forming. Mostly the music is what drew me. The tradition and the social aspect was the second tug that pulled at me. The third thing that called me to this form was that my mother's maiden name is Morris. Her father's parents came from England long ago. I have wondered if they were ever Morris dancers. Today, my daughter was up on Lantern Hill with the dancers as the sun rose on this day. Perhaps there is a thread that follows us through the stories of our ancestors. I find it so curious that these links, rise up in us at random moments across the Life Lines of a generation of family. How does that fit in with the destiny of living? Are these threads always pulling at us as we walk forward through time? What calls to us...?
